NFU welcome as Whole Farm Approach goes live
The NFU has welcomed a new web-based system that aims to save England's farmers time and money.
The Whole Farm Approach is now available to the country's 120,000 farms and provides farmers with the opportunity to start simplifying the way they do business with the Government. Defra claim the system will cut the amount of red tape affecting the industry and could save up to £28 million a year.
Andrew Clark, NFU Head of Policy Services, said: "The Whole Farm Approach provides a great opportunity to simplify and streamline the submission of data to Defra.
"This is an opportunity for regulators to inspect the industry based around the level of perceived risk. The NFU are expecting farmers who use the system to see a reduction in the number of compliance visits if they are viewed as a low-risk after utilising the Whole Farm Approach.
"Farmers want to demonstrate their awareness of the regulatory hurdles they face and also that they have a desire to take action to reduce the risk of contravening regulations."
The system allows farmers to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their business and to check that the details they provide are up to date and accurately recorded. They can also get help and advice on farming practices.
The NFU has worked closely with Defra in the development of the Whole Farm Approach and believes the new system will streamline the amount of information required and cut out duplication.
